Centre swimming ends fall schedule among nation's best
DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre swim teams capped off a successful opening half of the 2017-18 season with individuals and relay squads earning high marks in the national rankings.
On the women's side, the Colonels had 59 out of 60 seasonal best swims as a team. Senior Cameron Beach (Greenville, S.C.) is ranked in the top 50 of NCAA Division 3 in the 50-yard freestyle. Freshman Sarah Phillips (Lexington, Ky.) ranks in the top 50 in the 200-yard freestyle. Sophomore Chloe Grove (Bucyrus, Ohio) earned a top 30 ranking in both the 500-yard freestyle and mile freestyle. Sophomore Annie Holmes (Louisville, Ky.) is also doubly ranked in the top 25 in the 200-yard individual medley and 100-yard butterfly, and sophomore Amelia Blankenbeker (Jeffersonville, Ind.) has a top 25 ranking in the 200-yard butterfly.
Centre's women's relays are ranked as well with the 400-yard freestyle relay coming in at 14th, the 200-yard freestyle relay at 11th and the 800-yard freestyle relay ranked fourth in the country.
Collegeswimming.com ranks the Centre women as the 21st best team in Division III through the end of the fall schedule.
The Centre men also had an excellent fall despite dealing with injuries to several key swimmers. The Colonels had 49 out of 52 seasonal best swims in the fall. Senior Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.) is ranked in the top 35 in the nation in the 200-yard butterfly and eighth in the 100-yard butterfly. Senior Logan Oatman (Paducah, Ky.) ranks in the top 50 in the 200-yard backstroke and sophomore Arthur Ensign George (Louisville, Ky.) is ranked in the top 30 in the country in both the mile and 500-yard freestyle.
The men's relays are also ranked 22nd in the country in the 200 –yard Medley Relay and 18th in the 400 Medley Relay. Collegeswimming.com has our men ranked 28th in their Division 3 power rankings.
The Centre swimming schedule will resume in January with the Colonel Classic at Boles Natatorium, where the Colonels have yet to lose in 2017-18.
