Colonels drop final swim meet of regular season
NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Fresh off a dominant performance on Friday's Senior Night against Asbury, the Centre swim teams headed south to Tennessee for their regular season finale, where they dropped a dual meet against Birmingham Southern and former Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference rival Trinity (Texas).
In the 400-yard medley relay, the Colonels tied the top men's squad from BSC as the team of seniors Bradley Baker (Paducah, Ky.) and Noah Martin (Spartanburg, S.C.), sophomore Michael Hambleton (Lake Bluff, Ill.) and freshman Jimmy Kelley (Cincinnati) posted a time of 3:38.58 to tie the time posted by Birmingham Southern.
Another impressive performance for the Colonels came in the 100-yard freestyle as Noah Martin posted the only individual event win for the Centre men with a time of 1:59.19, edging the second place time by less than half a second. In the 1000-yard freestyle, sophomore Arthur Ensign-George (Louisville, Ky.) made a full four-second improvement on his seed time, just missing out on a win with a second place time of 9:57.15.
On the women's side, Centre earned a pair of tough victories in individual events. In the 200-yard individual medley, freshman Sarah Phillips (Lexington, Ky.) was the only swimmer in the championship heat to outperform her seed time, finishing with a time of 2:16.31 to take the victory.
The other victory for the Centre women came courtesy of sophomore Chloe Grove (Bucyrus, Ohio), who pulled away for a victory in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:17.63, winning by almost seven full seconds.
With the regular season in the books, the next meet for the Centre swim teams will be the Southern Athletic Association championships in Birmingham, Ala. in two weeks. Centre will serve as the host school for the event.
