Three Conference Titles | 20 All-Americans | One Individual National Champion
Hayhurst repeats as regional 1m champion, Nordin finishes ninth in 3m
SAN ANTONIO - The opening day of the NCAA Region 2 Diving Championships wrapped up earlier today from Palo Alto College and it was a memorable day for Centre diving.
On the women's side, the Friday portion of the competition consisted of the 1m championship and senior Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) steadily improved her scores as the meet went on, eventually winning the Region 2 1m board for the fourth consecutive season with a score of 436.35 points. The win marked the sixth regional championship for Hayhurst in her career and automatically qualifies the five-time diving All-American for the NCAA Finals in three weeks.
Friday also saw the 3m diving competition on the men's side, which meant the regional championship debut of senior Brad Nordin (Paintsville, Ky.). Nordin had a fine showing in his first ever regional finals, placing ninth overall with a score of 340.95 points.
On Saturday, the NCAA Region 2 Diving Championships will conclude as Hayhurst competes in the 3m championship and Nordin competes in the 1m championship.
