Three Conference Titles | 20 All-Americans | One Individual National Champion
Colonels prep for NCAA Swimming & Diving Finals
INDIANAPOLIS - With the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships field officially announced after last week's regional diving finals, Centre senior diver Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) and the women's 800 freestyle relay squad have earned opportunities to compete in their respective events.
Hayhurst will be competing in both the 1m and 3m diving competitions after sweeping the zone 2 regional diving championships last week at Palo Alto College in San Antonio. The wins gave Hayhurst seven regional diving championships in her career out of eight possible opportunities. Hayhurst will be looking to become Centre's first individual national champion since Chrys Jones '11 (men's track and field) and Chris Morris '11 (men's golf) each accomplished the feat at the end of their senior seasons.
Hayhurst was national runner-up on the 1m board last season and finished fourth on the 3m board for a pair of All-America honors to give her five such recognitions in her college career to go along with All-American performances in the pole vault each of the last two track and field seasons.
In addition to Hayhurst, Centre will be sending its women's 800-yard freestyle relay squad to Indianapolis. The team of sophomores Chloe Grove (Bucyrus, Ohio), Amelia Blankenbeker (Jeffersonville, Ind.) and Annie Holmes (Louisville, Ky.) alongside freshman Sarah Phillips (Lexington, Ky.) earned a bid in the NCAA Finals after setting a school record in the event at the Southern Athletic Association Championships in Birmingham, Ala. The team's time of 7:39.49 currently ranks them 15th in all of Division III.
The NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships will take place at IUPUI March 20-24.
