DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's basketball team fell by a score of 73-39 to visiting Maryville (Tenn.) in the final game of the 2016 Lee's Famous Recipe/Hampton Inn Classic on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Gymnasium.
The Colonels drop to 0-3 with the loss while the Scots, a Sweet 16 team a year ago, boost their record to 2-0 on the season.
Freshman forward Mikayla Fee (Seymour, Ind.) dropped in a team-high eight points off the bench on 4-of-5 shooting to go with five rebounds.
Sophomore forward Day Vance (Knoxville, Tenn.) grabbed a team-high seven boards and recorded a game-high three steals while senior guard Caroline Andreassen (Kenosha, Wis.) and freshman guard Ami Ballard (Louisville, Ky.) each finished with seven markers for Centre.
Sophomore forward Cheyenne Bunner (Mars Hill, N.C.) chipped in five rebounds and a team-high three assists off the bench for the Colonels.
Madison Maples paced four Maryville players in double-figures with 16 points, followed by Allyson Freiermuth with 13, Mindy Brackins with 11 and Lauren Biliter with 10 markers. Freiermuth and Rachel Hawn each pulled down a team-high seven rebounds apiece for the Scots.
Maryville shot 52.8 percent (28-of-53) from the field compared to the Colonels' 30.2 percent (16-of-53) on field goals. The Scots also connected on 40.9 percent (9-of-22) shots from behind the arc while Centre was 21.1 percent (4-of-19) from downtown.
Maryville held a slim 36-33 rebounding edge in the contest, but the Scots outscored the Colonels 34-12 in the paint, 23-11 off turnovers and 15-13 in second chance points.
Bench points were an even 23-23 in the game.
Centre returns to action this Tuesday, Nov. 22 traveling to Louisville to take on Spalding at 7 p.m. ET.
