Colonels Drop Non-Conference Tilt at Maryville (Tenn.)

MARYVILLE, Tenn. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's basketball team dropped a 72-47 decision at Maryville (Tenn.) in a non-conference matchup on Thursday night at Baird Gymnasium. The Colonels move to 2-6 on the season with the loss, while the Scots improve to 6-2.

Senior guard Caroline Andreassen (Kenosha, Wis.) and freshman Meredith Hobbs (Johns Creek, Ga.) tallied a team-high nine points for the Colonels.

Andreassen made 2-of-4 field goals all from long range to go with 3-of-4 from the charity stripe, while Hobbs was 3-of-5 from behind the arc in the game.

Sophomore forward Day Vance (Knoxville, Tenn.) added six points and a team-high five rebounds in the contest.

Freshman guard Ami Ballard (Louisville, Ky.) dished out a team-high five assists off the bench for Centre.

Madison Maples scored a game-high 23 points for the Scots, connecting on 6-of-8 shots from behind the arc. Lauren Biliter added 12 points followed by Allyson Freiermuth with 11 markers.

Centre shot 38.3 percent (18-of-47) from the field, including 40.0 percent (6-of-15) from downtown. The Colonels were 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from the free throw line.

Bench points were an even 19-19 in the contest.

Centre returns to action on Saturday taking on Huntingdon in another non-conference matchup at Oglethorpe in Atlanta, Ga. at 4 p.m. ET.
