BLUFFTON, Ohio (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's basketball team dropped a 70-31 decision to seventh-ranked Hope in the consolation game of the Bluffton McDonald's Holiday Tournament at the Sommer Center on Friday afternoon.
The Colonels move to 3-9 with the loss, while the Flying Dutch boosted its record to 12-1 with the triumph.
Junior guard Paige Kellam (Hebron, Ky.) earned All-Tournament accolades after dropping in a team-high nine points off the bench, connecting on 3-of-4 field goals, 1-of-2 shots from behind the arc and 2-of-2 free throws in the contest.
Sophomore forward Day Vance (Knoxville, Tenn.) tallied eight points on 4-of-8 shooting to go with four rebounds for Centre.
Francesca Buchanan and Allison Hedrick each finished with 10 points to lead a balanced scoring effort for Hope, which had five players score at least eight points. Mandy Traversa pulled down seven rebounds to pace the Flying Dutch while Hedrick added six boards off the bench in the victory.
Centre has now faced three ranked opponents on the season after battling No. 4 Thomas More in the season opener before taking on No. 18 Maryville (Tenn.).
Hope's lone loss on the season came yesterday at Bluffton to another top-10 opponent in No. 5 St. Thomas (Minn.).
The Colonels open the 2017 portion of the schedule with a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) showdown in Atlanta against Oglethorpe on Friday, Jan. 6 at 6 p.m. ET.
