DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre women's basketball dropped its fifth consecutive contest Friday evening, falling 62-45 against visiting Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Hendrix in Alumni Gymnasium.
In their first home defeat of the season, the Colonels (12-6, 3-5 SAA) could not slow down the Warriors (14-5, 6-2) in the second half, getting outscored 37-20 across the third and fourth quarters.
Hendrix, which claimed a series sweep after last week's 72-65 victory in Conway, Ark., shot 16-for-26 (62%) as a team in the second half, and were led by Madison Martin's game-high 24 points.
The Warriors shot out of the gates to a 7-0 lead after the opening tip-off, but the Colonels closed the first quarter on a tear, using a 16-4 run to take a 16-11 lead going into the second period.
Hendrix slowly bounced back, regaining the lead late in the second quarter after an 8-0 stretch made it 25-23. Sophomore Kat Wilson (Suwanee, Ga.) sank a tough jumper with under 30 second left in the half, bringing the teams level after one half of play.
The Warriors found their offensive stride in the third period, hanging 20 points on the Colonels to open up the first double-digit lead for either side.
Centre, meanwhile, struggled to take the lid off the bucket in the third and fourth quarters, shooting 8 of 30 (27%) to finish the game shooting just under 32 percent overall.
Hendrix stayed out of reach the rest of the way, leaning heavily on its work in the paint. The Warriors scored 40 of their 62 in the post, and totaled 16 points on second chance opportunities.
The Colonels have their second meeting of the season with Rhodes on Sunday, tipping off inside Alumni Gym at 1 p.m. ET. Centre is looking to avenge last weekend's 75-62 defeat against the Lynx.
