Centre women land three on All-SAA teams
ATLANTA - As the Southern Athletic Association prepares to host its 2017-18 women's basketball championship at Oglethorpe, the league released its All-Conference awards for this season and three players from Centre College made the cut.
Sophomore Kat Wilson (Suwanee, Ga.) was a Second Team All-SAA selection after pacing the Colonels in scoring at 12 points per game. Wilson exploded onto the scene with a 29-point performance against Maryville in the second game of the season and became the Colonels' top offensive weapon the rest of the way. Wilson finished fourth in the SAA in three-pointers made and three-point percentage, often spotting up in transition. She also finished third in the league in free throw percentage.
Senior Paige Kellam (Hebron, Ky.) earned Honorable Mention All-SAA honors after a solid senior campaign. Kellam finished sixth in the SAA in assists and second on the Centre team in field goal percentage from the point guard position. Kellam's top game as a senior was a 23-point, 11-assist outburst against Millsaps on Jan. 7.
Junior Abigail Stewart (LaGrange, Ky.) joined Kellam on the All-SAA Honorable Mention squad. Stewart tied a program single-game record with 36 points against Millsaps on Jan. 7 en route to being named SAA Player of the Week. Stewart was the top free throw shooter in the SAA at 88 percent and ranked third in the league in blocks.
The Colonels will battle Berry at 6 p.m. ET on Friday in quarterfinal action.
