Colonels Open Women's Golf Season at Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic
CLAYTON, Ind. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's golf team began its 2016-17 season at one of the toughest tournaments of the Division III fall schedule, the Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic hosted by DePauw. Through 18 holes of golf, the Colonels are in eighth place.
Centre shot a combined team score of 324 at Deer Creek G.C. on Saturday to land in eighth place, but there is room to rocket up the leaderboard, with just six shots separating eighth place from third place. Wittenberg is in first place, followed by Division II Indiana Tech in second, and then a tie for third place between Illinois Wesleyan and Division II William Penn, both of whom shot 318 on Saturday.
Individually, the low scorer for the Colonels was junior Jill Edgington (Edgewood, Ky.) who finished with a round of 77 to sit in a tie for eighth place overall.
Junior Eliza Hudson (Mauckport, Ind.) returned to her home state to fire a score of 80, landing her in the top 20 overall.
Freshman Rachel Fine (Lexington, Ky.) opened her collegiate career with a score of 83 on Saturday, while junior Alison Miller (Lexington, Ky) and freshman Rebecca Fine (Lexington, Ky.) rounded out Centre's Saturday performances with scores of 84 and 90.
The Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic will conclude on Sunday afternoon.
