Colonels Pace Field After Day One of Jim English Invite

DANVILLE, Ky. ( – The Centre women's golf team sits in first place out of a total of eight teams after day one of competition at the Jim English Invitational on Saturday at Danville Country Club. The Colonels sport a score of 307 through the first day of action, pacing second-place DePauw (314) by seven strokes.

Junior Jill Edgington (Edgewood, Ky.) leads Centre with a second-place score of 75 (+2) in the first round, trailing clubhouse leader Anna Foley (73) of DePauw by two strokes.

Edgington finished with a pair of birdies on the day to go with 12 pars, a figure which paced the field in the round.

After a bogey on the par-four fifth hole, the junior made par on seven straight holes before firing a birdie on the 13th hole followed by three more consecutive pars.

Junior Alison Miller (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Rachel Fine (Lexington, Ky.) sit in a tie for third place with a score of 77 on the day, followed by Rebecca Fine (Lexington, Ky.) in sixth with a 78 and junior Eliza Hudson (Mauckport, Ind.) tied for 11th with an 82 on Saturday.

Miller and Rachel Fine tied for the tournament lead with three birdies apiece in the round, while Fine ranked second in the field with 11 pars on the day.

As a team, Centre paced all squads in par-five scoring at four-under on the day while also leading all teams with 12 birdies and 47 pars.

All five Colonels recorded at least two birdies in the round.
