@CentreWGolf Leads through 18 Holes at SAA Championships

MAUMELLE, Ark. (CentreColonels.com) – On a rainy Friday at Maumelle C.C. in Arkansas, the Centre women's golf team braved the elements better than the field at the Southern Athletic Association Championships, as the Colonels hold a one-shot lead through the first day of competition.

Centre posted a combined team score of 323 on Friday to sit atop the leaderboard. Sewanee, who competed neck and neck with the Colonels at their last tournament at Washington University, sits one shot back at 324. Oglethorpe is in third place with a score of 327, followed by Berry at 336 and Rhodes at 339.

On a day where no individual players shot par or under, junior Jill Edgington (Edgewood, Ky.) currently ranks second on the leaderboard after shooting a round of 75 on Friday. Edgington played the back nine at even par and finished with three birdies for the round.

Junior Eliza Hudson (Mauckport, Ind.) sits one shot back of Edgington, currently third overall with a score of 76. Like Edgington, Hudson's front nine began auspiciously, but she settled down and finished one over on the back nine after her birdie on the par 5 12th hole.

Junior Allison Miller (Lexington, Ky.), who was the best player for the Colonels in the Washington University Invite, struggled on the back nine, but started well, including a birdie on her first hole as she finished with a round of 85.

Junior Madison Grant (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Cameron Cahill (Lexington, Ky.) rounded out the Friday action for Centre with respective scores of 87 and 96.

The SAA Championships will resume on Saturday with plenty of room for teams and individuals to move on the leaderboard. Golfstat live scoring for the event can be found HERE as well as on the women's golf schedule page.
