Colonels in third after opening round at General's Invitational

LEXINGTON, Va. - The opening 18 holes at the General's Invitational are in the books from Lexington Golf and Country Club and the Centre women's golf team posted its best opening round of the year to sit in third place going into Tuesday's final round.

The Colonels posted a combined team score of 319 on Monday to finish four shots back of host school Washington & Lee and eight shots back of first place Methodist. The Colonels are one shot ahead of Carnegie Mellon.

Individually, the low round of the day for Centre belonged to senior Madison Grant (Lexington, Ky.), who posted a round of 76 on Monday to sit in a tie for fifth place overall. The 76 represented the lowest round of Grant's career.

Senior Alison Miller (Lexington, Ky.) finished with a round of 78, two shots back of Grant, to sit in a three-way tie for eighth place. Senior Eliza Hudson (Mauckport, Ind.) shot a round of 79 to land just outside the individual top ten, currently sitting in a tie for 11th.

Freshman Bailey Plourde (Newcastle, Maine) and sophomore Cameron Cahill (Lexington, Ky.) rounded out Centre's Monday totals with respective scores of 86 and 96.

The final round of the General's Invitational will begin on Tuesday with a 9:00 AM shotgun start.
