Colonels finish sixth at SAA Women’s Golf Championships
DICKSON, Tenn. – The Centre women's golf team had a late finish at the Southern Athletic Association championships due to lightning around Greystone G.C., finishing in sixth place overall.
The Colonels shot a combined three-day score of 995 for the tournament after shooting 328 on the final day of play. Berry picked up the win at this year's SAA tournament, followed by Oglethorpe and Sewanee.
Individually, the low score of the day for the Colonels belonged to senior Alison Miller (Lexington, Ky.), who posted a score of 78. Miller began her day with consecutive birdies on holes 14-15 and closed out her round with another birdie on the 13th. Miller shot 244 for the tournament and finished in 14th place overall.
Senior Eliza Hudson (Mauckport, Ind.) finished with a score of 82 for the Colonels on Sunday. Hudson had a pair of par 5 birdies on the long course at Greystone and finished with a three-day score of 258.
Freshman Bailey Plourde (Newcastle, Maine), senior Madison Grant (Lexington, Ky.) and sophomore Cameron Cahill (Lexington, Ky.) all posted scores of 84 for Centre on Sunday. In addition to the identical scores, all three players birdied the par 5 second hole. Plourde was the tournament low scorer for Centre, finishing with a three-day score of 239 for the tournament to tie for fifth place, while Grant and Cahill posted tournament scores of 259 and 261.
Plourde earned All-SAA First Team honors for her top 5 finish in the tournament, another accolade in what was a highly decorated freshman season with the Colonels. In addition, Plourde earned SAA Newcomer of the Year after being the top freshman finisher in the field.
Miller's 14th place finish earned her All-SAA Second Team honors.
Hudson's was Centre's representative on the SAA All-Sportsmanship squad for women's golf.
