Fifth-Ranked @CentreWSoccer Posts Third Straight Shutout with 1-0 Win over Piedmont

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's soccer team recorded its third consecutive shut out win to open the season on Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 victory over visiting Piedmont at Hillside Field.

The Colonels, ranked fifth in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Top 25, improved to 3-0-0 with the win, while the Lady Lions dropped to 0-2-0 on the season.

After a scoreless first half, sophomore forward Keeghan Francis (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored her second goal in as many days in the 50th minute to give Centre a 1-0 lead. Senior defender Shannon Murray (Harrodsburg, Ky.) assisted on the score.

Another stellar performance by the Colonel defense, the Centre back line did not allow a single shot on goal in the game. The Colonel defense has allowed just three shots on goal through the first three games of the season.

On Sunday, Centre held advantages of 16-1 in shots and 6-0 in corner kicks in the victory.

The Colonels are back in action on Wednesday night, traveling to Lexington to take on local rival Transylvania at 7 p.m. Centre defeated the Pioneers 4-0 to open the 2015 season in Danville.
