Shots (on goal)
SPRINGFIELD, Ohio (CentreColonels.com) – Trailing host Wittenberg 1-0 with just over five minutes remaining in regulation, senior forward Destinie Graves' (Lexington, Ky.) penalty kick goal knotted the game at 1-1 to send the contest between the fifth-ranked Centre women's soccer team and Tigers into overtime. Neither team was able to gain an edge in the bonus periods, as the Colonels and Wittenberg played to a 1-1 tie at Edwards-Maurer Stadium.
Centre moves to 6-0-1 on the season, while the Tigers are now 2-1-2 on the year.
The Tigers got on the board in the 12th minute when Megan Davis found the back of the net. It marked the first time the Colonels trailed in the regular season since October 11, 2015, when Rhodes led Centre 2-1. The Colonels had gone 951:26 of game play since trailing in a regular season matchup.
In the 85th minute, Graves scored her fifth goal of the season on a penalty kick after a Wittenberg foul in the box.
Shots were an even 2-2 in the overtime periods, but neither team was able to find the back of the net.
Centre edged the Tigers 11-9 in shots on the match and held a 6-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Senior goalkeeper Olivia Alford (Louisville, Ky.) made three saves in net for the Colonels.
Centre returns to action with a road contest at Denison on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2:30 p.m. The Big Red handed the Colonels one of their two defeats last season.
