DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – Senior forward Destinie Graves (Lexington, Ky.) netted her second career hat trick to lead the 20th-ranked Centre women's soccer team to a 4-0 win over Berry in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest on Friday night at Hillside Field. The Colonels record their ninth shutout win of the season and boost their record to 10-1-2 overall and 2-0 in SAA play, while the Vikings fell to 5-5 on the season and 0-2 in the conference.
Graves finished with a career-high seven points in the victory, as she dished out an assist as well.
She found the back of the net from 12 yards out in the 11th minute off the assist by junior midfielder Amber Cowell (Culver, Ind.) to get Centre on the board.
Just under nine minutes later, Graves fed freshman forward Alana Hughes (Lexington, Ky.) on a cross from the right side of the field to left of the box, as Hughes put the Colonels on top 2-0.
Graves' header in the 35th minute of action off the assist by sophomore forward Maddy Coleman (Georgetown, Ky.) extended the Centre lead to 3-0.
Early in the second half, the reigning SAA Offensive Player of the Year and All-American belted a frozen rope past Berry goaltender Jackie McGivney to tack onto the Colonels' advantage.
Graves led all players with six shots in the contest, while freshman forward Meghan Paynter (Danville, Ky.) added three shots.
Centre senior goalkeeper Olivia Alford (Louisville, Ky.) made six saves in net for the Colonels.
Centre held advantages of 16-13 in shots and 6-1 in corner kicks.
Following a 13-match month of September, the Colonels have a week off before hosting Birmingham Southern next Friday, Oct. 7 at 5:30 p.m. at Hillside Field.
