No. 21 @CentreWSoccer Slips Past Hendrix 1-0 on Paynter’s Late Goal

CONWAY, Ark. (CentreColonels.com) – Freshman Meghan Paynter's (Danville, Ky.) goal in the 86th minute of action in a Southern Athletic Association contest on Friday night lifted the 21st-ranked Centre women's soccer team to a 1-0 triumph over host Hendrix at Warrior Field.

The Colonels win their fifth straight game and stay perfect in SAA play at 5-0 while boosting their overall ledger to 13-1-2 on the year. The Warriors fall to 10-5 overall and 2-3 in the conference with the loss.

Neither team was able to find the back of the net until there were less than five minutes showing on the second half clock when Paytner fielded the ball off the rebound of a corner kick by classmate Alana Hughes (Lexington, Ky.), before beating goaltender Jordan Rausch right to the middle of the net.

Centre held a 22-11 shooting advantage in the win, including a 12-6 edge in the second half of action. The Colonels also recorded 10 corner kicks compared to the Warriors' two.

Centre senior goalkeeper Olivia Alford (Louisville, Ky.) posted her sixth shutout of the season and made six saves for the Colonels. All told, Centre now has 11 shutout wins on the year.

Raush tallied seven saves between the pipes for Hendrix.

The Colonels have now played 21 matches without a loss to an SAA opponent.

Centre will travel to Memphis, Tenn. to take on Rhodes in an SAA contest on Sunday at 2 p.m. CT. The Colonels topped the Lynx 1-0 in the SAA Championship game last season after defeating Rhodes 3-2 in the regular season in 2015.
