DANVILLE, KY. (CentreColonels.com) – The Top-seeded and 15th-ranked Centre women's soccer team posted a 9-0 shutout win over eighth-seeded Millsaps in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) quarterfinals on Saturday afternoon at Hillside Field.

The Colonels improve to 16-1-2 with the win and advance to next Friday's SAA semifinals. Centre will host the SAA Final Four for the third straight season. The Colonels have now won eight straight games, outscoring opponents 40-3 in those contests.

The Majors close the 2016 campaign with a 1-15-1 ledger.

Senior forward Katie Downing (Dayton, Ohio) and sophomore midfielder Sarah Waldo (Bedford, Ind.) netted two goals apiece to pace Centre.

Freshman forward Alana Hughes (Lexington, Ky.) scored the match's first goal off the assist by senior forward Destinie Graves (Lexington, Ky.) in the sixth minute of action. Hughes now has five goals on the year, while Graves has an SAA-leading nine helpers.

Downing and Waldo alternated goals to push the Colonels' advantage to 5-0 at the break. Hughes assisted on Downing's first goal with senior forward Megan Sherwood (Crestwood, Ky.) dishing out the assist on Downing's second score. Junior forward Maggie Ely (Jacksonville, Fla.) assisted Waldo's first goal of the half.

In the second period, freshmen Julia Balte (Atlanta, Ga.), Gillian Gurney (Cincinnati, Ohio) and Hannah Bandura (Morehead, Ky.) each netted their first career goals to extend the Colonels' lead to 8-0, before Ely found the back of the net for the second time this season off the assist by senior midfielder Madeleine Loftus (Winter Park, Fla.).

Centre held a 33-3 shooting edge in the win while tallying seven corner kicks.

Senior goalkeeper Olivia Alford (Louisville, Ky.) played the first half in net, before junior Sarah Youkilis (Lexington, Ky.) took over in the second half, making a pair of saves for the Colonels. Centre now has 13 total shutout wins on the year.

The Colonels will take on the winner of the Berry-Birmingham Southern matchup on Friday, Nov. 4 at Hillside Field. The Vikings face the Panthers on Saturday night. Game times and other information for the SAA Women's Soccer Tournament will be announced on Sunday.
