@CentreWSoccer Releases 2017 Schedule
DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) - Earlier this week head coach Jay Hoffman released the 2017 Centre women's soccer schedule as the Colonels will be looking to win their sixth consecutive Southern Athletic Association title and make their seventh straight NCAA Tournament.
The Colonels will break in Andrew P. Amend Field and the new soccer complex finished in the winter of 2017 with a tournament. Centre will host both Wittenberg and Washington & Lee in tournament action. The Colonels defeated Washington & Lee in a hard fought 2-1 victory last year and played Wittenberg to a 1-1 tie on the road.
Next up for Centre will be a road weekend in Ohio as Centre will take on John Carroll and Otterbein. Centre defeated John Carroll 2-0 in September tournament action last season at Hillside. The Ohio gauntlet will continue the next weekend as Denison and Wilmington come to Danville for a pair of games. The Colonels defeated Wilmington 4-0 in last season's opener and traveled to Denison for a 2-2 double overtime tie.
After the Wilmington game, the Colonels will play seven of their next eight games on the road, with a home game against Mount St. Joseph breaking up the travel. Centre will play Berea, DePauw and Piedmont, who fell to the Colonels twice last year, including a 4-1 Centre victory in the opening round of the NCAA Tournament. The first four SAA contests of the season will also be on the road as Centre will play Oglethorpe, Berry, Millsaps and Birmingham Southern.
The final three games of the conference slate will all be at home, including tilts against Rhodes and Sewanee, the teams that have provided the toughest challenges for the Colonels during their current stretch of conference championships.
The first game of the season will be on Sept. 1 against Wittenberg with a 6:30 start time.
