Centre thwarts Rhodes 3-0 in Friday night SAA showdown

DANVILLE Ky. - Centre women's soccer defeated Rhodes at home on Friday evening, earning a hard fought 3-0 decision at Amend Field. 

The Colonels improve to 9-3-2 overall and remain unbeaten in conference play, while the Lynx fall to 7-5-1 and 3-2 in the SAA. 

In a back and forth affair neither the Lynx nor the Colonels could find the back of the net until midway through the second half. 

In the 66th minute Junior Keeghan Francis (Knoxville, Tenn.) scored off of a corner from Junior Hannah Sirkin (Asheville, N.C.), her first of two goals on the night. 

Centre would pour on two more goals in the second half to pull away. 

Sophomore Alana Hughes (Lexington, Ky.) scored in the 79th minute – her seventh of the season -  off of a Maddie Covey (Lexington, Ky.) assist, giving the Colonels a 2-0 edge. 

Francis netted her second goal in the 81st minute, making it 3-0 Colonels. 

Centre outshot Rhodes 14 to 1 in the second half, while Rhodes only managed two shots in the entire contest. 

The Colonels return to Amend Field this Sunday, taking on Hendrix at 12 p.m. ET.
