DANVILLE Ky. – Centre women's soccer earned a decisive Southern Athletic Association (SAA) victory on Senior Day, defeating Hendrix, 1-0, Sunday afternoon at Amend Field.
The Colonels improve to 10-3-2 overall and a perfect 5-0 in conference play with the win, while the Warriors fall to 5-8-2 overall and 1-3-2 in the SAA.
During halftime, Centre celebrated the careers of seniors Sarah Youkilis (Lexington, Ky.), Amber Cowell (Culver, Ind.), Amy Dean (Cincinnati), Audrey Moreng (Fort Collins, Colo.), Maggie Ely (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Mackenzie Kern (Cincinnati).
Both teams remained deadlocked midway through the first half, struggling to finish any of their scoring opportunities.
In the 40th minute, sophomore Annika Struthwolf (Tuscaloosa, Ala.) netted her first goal of the season off of freshman Kristin Dean's (Cincinnati, Ohio) assist, giving the Colonels a 1-0 edge at the half. It would prove to be the game-winning goal.
Centre found itself in the driver's seat throughout the second half, outshooting Hendrix 6-1 in the last 45 minutes of play, and hung on for its fifth conference victory in as many matches.
The Colonels finished with 11 corners to the visitors' two, and had 12 shots to the Warriors' two.
Centre will return to the pitch this Wednesday, facing Birmingham Southern on the road at 2:30 p.m. ET.
