Centre completes perfect SAA slate, defeats Sewanee 5-0

DANVILLE Ky. – Centre women's soccer defeated Sewanee, 5-0, in Southern Athletic Association play on Saturday evening at Amend Field, completing their second consecutive 7-0 record in conference action.

The Colonels improve to 12-3-2 overall, while the Tigers fall to 5-8-2 and 3-3-1 in the SAA.

Centre put the pressure on Sewanee early and often, registering nine shots in the first half of play.

Shortly after the opening whistle, freshman Kristin Dean (Cincinnati) tallied her fifth goal of the season off of an Alana Hughes (Lexington, Ky.) assist, giving the Colonels an early 1-0 advantage.  

In the 38th minute, sophomore Julia Balte (Atlanta) extended the Colonels' lead to 2-0, recording her fourth goal of the campaign.

Centre added three more goals on 15 shots in the second frame to complete the rout.

Junior Keeghan Francis (Knoxville, Tenn.) found the back of the net in the 57th minute, getting an assist from Hughes, her second of the night. The goal was Francis' team-high 10th of the season.

Freshman Rachael Boule (West Barnstable, Mass.) scored in the 83rd minute off of a Skylar Hargrove (Mayfield, Ky.) helper. Two minutes later freshman Madeline Espy tallied her first goal of the season.

Centre finished with 24 shots to Sewanee's two, and also totaled six corners.

The Colonel defense and senior goalie Sarah Youkilis (Lexington, Ky.) completed their ninth clean sheet of the season and fourth in the last five matches.

The Colonels will return to the field next Saturday, hosting a SAA Tournament quarterfinal match. The complete SAA Tournament bracket will be released Sunday at noon.
