Four women’s soccer standouts named to All-South Atlantic Region
KANSAS, Mo. – Four Centre women's soccer student-athletes have been named to the 2017 United Soccer Coaches NCAA Division III Women's All-South Atlantic Region teams.
Sophomores Jessie Turner (Versailles, Ky.) and Meghan Paynter (Danville, Ky.) each earned second team recognition, while sophomore Alana Hughes (Lexington, Ky.) and freshman Averi Faulk (Crestwood, Ky.) were named to the third team.
Turner, the reigning SAA Defensive Player of the Year, was a major part in a defensive unit that led the conference and ranked in the top 25 nationally in goals-against average. It marked the second consecutive all-region accolade for Turner, who was on the third team last season.
Paynter totaled 15 points on four goals and seven assists this season, finishing with three points against both Oglethorpe (Sept. 23) and Millsaps (Oct. 28).
Hughes led Centre with 35 points, ranking in the top four in-conference in points, goals (11) and assists (13). Her 13 assists ranked 16th in all of NCAA Division III.
Faulk was the only Colonel to start all 22 matches this season, and was one of just four rookies named to the All-South Atlantic teams.
