Zelichenok, Randall Push Singles Win Streaks to Five

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) – Freshman Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) and senior Kim Randall (Johns Creek, Ga.) each extended their respective singles match winning streaks to five victories with wins over Birmingham Southern in a Southern Athletic Association (SAA) contest on Sunday.

However, the Panthers bested the host Colonels by a score of 6-3 in a battle for sole possession of second place in the SAA standings.

Centre moved to 8-5 on the year, including a 3-2 mark in SAA action. Birmingham Southern improved to 11-4 overall and 4-1 in the conference.

Zelichenok picked up a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles, while Randall earned a 6-3, 6-1 triumph at the No. 6 slot for the Colonels.

Zelichenok and doubles teammate Neha Rao (London, Ky.) collected a victory at No. 1 doubles.

Centre returns to action next weekend with a pair of crucial SAA matchups when the Colonels travel to Berry and Oglethorpe. Centre and the Vikings are tied for third place in the SAA standings, as both teams own a 3-2 ledger in conference play this season. The Stormy Petrels sit in a tie for fifth place at 2-3 in SAA action on the year. Centre takes on Berry at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 16 before facing off with Oglethorpe on Sunday, April 17 at 9 a.m.
