@Centre_Tennis Women Win Sixth Straight with 7-2 Victory at Millsaps

JACKSON, Miss. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's tennis team extended its winning streak to six matches on Saturday, topping Southern Athletic Association (SAA) foe Millsaps on the road by a score of 7-2.

The Colonels, ninth in the latest Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South Regional Rankings, improved to 9-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play, while the Majors, who sit 14th in the region, fell to 13-4 and 3-1, respectively.

Centre began the match with a pair of triumphs in doubles play, as the duo of sophomore Neha Rao (London, Ky.) and junior Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio) earned an 8-2 win at the top position to remainded undefeated on the year, followed by an 8-3 victory at No. 2 doubles by sophomores Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) and Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas).

The Colonels followed that up by capturing five of six matchups in singles competition, as Williams, Kent and Zelichenok went 2-0 on the day with wins in singles play, as well.

Senior Courtney DeLong (Louisville, Ky.) picked up a 7-5, 6-4 triumph at No. 5 singles to clinch the win for the Colonels before freshman Zena Maddux (Hopkinsville, Ky.) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 6 spot.

Centre resumes its SAA road trip Sunday morning traveling to Birmingham, Ala. to face Birmingham Southern at 9am CT.
