Colonels Advance to First Ever Conference Title Match with 5-0 Win over Oglethorpe

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's tennis team earned a trip to its first ever conference tournament match with a 5-0 triumph over third-seeded Oglethorpe in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) Tournament semifinals on Saturday afternoon at Burns Park.

The second-seeded Colonels advance to face top-seeded and 17th-ranked Sewanee in the SAA Championship on Sunday at 9am CT.

Centre (14-6) has now also won a program-record 11 straight matches heading into tomorrow's title match.

On Saturday, the Colonels swept doubles play once again, with all three Centre duos picking up 8-2 triumphs.

The tandems of sophomore Neha Rao (London, Ky.) and junior Aliza Williams (Cincinnati, Ohio), ranked eighth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Atlantic South regional doubles rankings, sophomores Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) and Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas) at No. 2 doubles as well as seniors Courtney DeLong (Louisville, Ky.) and Mary Chapin Snow (Elizabethtown, Ky.) at the No. 3 slot each collected wins for the Colonels. 

Williams picked up a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2 singles in addition to a 6-3, 6-2 triumph by Kent at No. 3 singles.

The 17th-ranked Tigers enter tomorrow's championship match following a 5-0 win over Millsaps on Saturday. Sewanee is making its fifth straight SAA championship match appearance.
