Colonels sweep Hendrix for second straight SAA win

CONWAY, Ark. – Centre women's tennis capped a strong Southern Athletic Association weekend with a resounding 9-0 sweep against Hendrix Sunday afternoon at the Hatcher Tennis Center.

The Colonels (8-10, 2-3 SAA) were a day removed from a 5-1 victory at Rhodes, and cruised past the host Warriors (3-8, 0-5) by claiming all nine points.

Centre's No. 3 doubles duo of Kenny Snow (Elizabethtown, Ky.) and Zena Maddux (Hopkinsville, Ky.) defeated Sarah Glass and Sara Hoopchuk, 8-2.

At No. 2 doubles, Caroline Stallings (Clarksville, Md.) and Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) paired to drop Hendrix's Laela Zaidi and Cooper Chimbel, 8-2.

The No. 1 pair of Abigail Kent (College Station, Texas) and Aliza Williams (Cincinnati) also won by an 8-2 decision, defeating Becky Sherman and Sarah Walker.

In singles, Maddux was the first to finish with a 6-1, 6-0 win against Karen Morris at No. 6.

Stallings continued a solid freshman campaign with a lopsided 6-0, 6-0 victory over Zaidi at No. , officially clinching the team's win.

Kent captured Centre's sixth point with a 6-3, 6-2 win against Sherman at No. 1, and Zelichenok followed with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Glass at No. 4.

Williams handed Walker a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, and Snow wrapped up the sweep with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Chimbel at No. 5. 

The Colonels close the regular season next weekend on the road, beginning Saturday at Oglethorpe at 9 a.m. ET.
