MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – A shorthanded Centre women's tennis squad saw its season come to a close in the Southern Athletic Association Tournament semifinals Saturday, falling to Millsaps by a 5-1 score.
The Colonels close their campaign 9-12 overall while the Majors improve to 15-6 and advance to Sunday's title match.
Centre was forced to shuffle its usual lineup Saturday with the absence of senior standout Aliza Williams (Cincinnati). Still, the Colonels hung tough with the Majors, a squad ranked among the top ten in the Atlantic South Region.
After Millsaps claimed doubles 1 and 3 by 8-4 scores, it secured a 3-0 advantage and all the momentum with a big come-from-behind victory in No. 2.
Emily Zelichenok (Louisville, Ky.) claimed the Colonels' lone point with a strong victory over Maggie Dabadie, winning the opening set 6-1 before Dabadie retired trailing 3-0 in the second.
The Majors were able to take the next two completed singles matches to earn the victory.
They will meet top-seeded Sewanee in the SAA Championship Sunday.
