Colonels Record Strong Showing with Second Place Finish at Centre Invite

DANVILLE, Ky. (CentreColonels.com) - Buoyed by four first-place finishes, the Centre women's track and field team posted a second-place finish at the 51st Centre Invitational on Saturday at Farris Stadium. The Colonels recorded 91 points, trailing just Ohio Northern (168 points) at the event. 

Baldwin Wallace finished third with 88 points followed by Case Western fourth with 84 points and Lindsey Wilson with 56 points. 

Senior Serena Gale-Butto (Muskegon, Mich.) kicked off the day by pacing the 10,000 meter run with a time of 37:27.11, 23 seconds ahead of the second place finisher. 

Sophomore Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio) posted a first-place mark of 4:43.08 in the 1,500 meter run to go with a second-place time of 2:21.52 in the 800 meter run. 

Senior Caitlin Yockey (Morrow, Ohio) captured the title in the high jump, clearing 1.57m for the win. Junior Emily Winkler (Louisville, Ky.) followed Yockey in second place in the event with a mark of 1.52m. 

Junior Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.), fresh off an All-American showing in the 1m and 3m dives at the NCAA Swimming and Diving championships, made her 2017 track and field debut with a first-place finish in the pole vault with a mark of 3.67m. 

Senior Anastasia Lyon (Lexington, Ky.) was the Colonels' leader in points on the day, finishing second in the long jump (5.19m), third in the 100 meter dash (12.71) and fourth in the triple jump (10.61m). Lyon was also part of Centre's 4x100 meter relay which posted an eighth-place mark of 53.43 with teammates freshmen Shannon Russell (Atlanta, Ga.) and Molly O'Dea (Louisville, Ky.) and sophomore Taylor Singleton (Hendersonville, N.C.). 

O'Dea also recorded a second-place finish in the triple jump at 11.15m, while Singleton finished sixth in the pole vault, clearing 2.65m on the day. 

Junior Aja Leachman (Louisville, Ky.) contributed a seventh-place mark of 11.11m in the shot put for Centre. 

Senior Celeste Grubb (Brentwood, Tenn.) and Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.) added eighth place finishes for the Colonels, as Grubb recorded a 13:23.49 mark in the 3000 meter steeplechase and Gibson posted a 5:07.71 time in the 1500 meter run. 

Centre is back in action next Saturday, April 8 at the DePauw Invitational in Greencastle, Ind.
