GREENCASTLE, Ind. (CentreColonels.com) – The Centre women's track and field team had another impressive showing on Saturday as they competed in the DePauw Invitational. The Colonels posted a second place finish, scoring 132 points overall.
Starting with the sprinting events, Centre had a pair of runners place in the 100m. Senior Anastasia Lyon (Lexington, Ky.) finished second with a time of 12.82, while freshman Shannon Russell (Atlanta, Ga.) placed sixth with a time of 13.95. Lyon also finished fifth in the 200m after crossing the finish line in 27.92. The Colonels' relay teams also scored points, placing second in the 4x400m and fifth in the 4x100m.
In the middle and distance events, freshman Hannah Jazdewski (Lexington, Ky.) finished seventh with a time of 1:03.15. The 800m was an even better event for the Colonels as sophomore Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio) won the event with a time of 2:21.18. In the same event, freshman Jennie Clark (Lexington, Ky.) placed eighth with a time of 2:40.21.
Rodenfels won her second event of the meet in the 3000m steeplechase, posting a winning time of 10:57.50 to set a new school and course record. Rodenfels broke All-SAA runner Hannah Ellis's previous record from 2014 by nearly 30 seconds. The 3000m steeplechase marked the fifth program record eclipsed by Rodenfels during her sophomore campaign with the Colonels. In the same event, freshman Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.) posted a second place finish with a time of 12:27.98
The Colonels placed a pair of scorers in the women's high jump as senior Caitlin Yockey (Morrow, Ohio) placed fourth with a clear of 5-00.50, while junior Emily Winkler (Louisville, Ky.) finished right behind her in fifth with a jump of 4-10.50.
In the pole vault, All-American Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) picked up another win with a first place clear of 11-10.00. Sophomore Taylor Singleton (Hendersonville, N.C.) finished in seventh place in the same event, clearing 9-10.50.
Another program record fell by the wayside in the triple jump as freshman Molly O'Dea (Louisville, Ky.) broke her old record with a jump of 37-02.25. O'Dea won the event, finishing over a full foot better than the second place triple jump.
Centre had multiple scorers in all four throwing events. Junior Aja Leachman (Louisville, Ky.) finished second in the shot put and third in both the discus and hammer. Freshman Ashley Lewis (Decatur, Ga.) placed fifth in the hammer and seventh in both the shot put and discus. Freshman Grace Bertram (Campbellsville, Ky.) finished fifth in the discus and eighth in the hammer. Freshman Paige Muntz (Floyds Knobs, Ind.) placed fifth in the shot put. In the javelin throw, junior Lydia Myers (Lenoxburg, Ky.) finished fifth and Hannah Jazdzewski took seventh place.
The Colonels will return home for their final tune-up before the conference championships as they compete in the Centre Twilight meet on Apr. 14.
