Centre women finish fourth at Twilight Meet

DANVILLE, Ky. – Centre College track and field held its annual Twilight Meet on Friday evening and the Centre women's track team put on a strong showing, finishing fourth in a field comprised of teams from all divisions.

The Colonels finished with 98 points in the meet, by far the most of any of the Division III women's teams in the field. Eastern Kentucky won the meet with 134 points.

The meet began with the 3000m steeplechase and senior Emma Anderson (Lexington, Ky.) picked up five points for Centre with a time of 13:48.67, good for fourth place overall.

In relays, the team of sophomores Erin Cunningham (Cecilia, Ky.) and Hannah Jazdzewski (Lexington, Ky.) along with freshmen Naomi Ferrell (Mill Valley, Calif.) and Claire Ansman (Goshen, Ky.) placed seventh in the 4x100m relay with a time of 52.74. Cunningham, Ansman and Jazdzewski teamed with senior Lydia Myers (Lenoxburg, Ky.) to place sixth in the 4x400m relay in 4:24.35. In the 400m, Jazdzewski got into the scoring column with a time of 1:02.56, good for eighth place overall. Cunningham also got on the board in the 400m hurdles, finishing eighth with a time of 1:11.66.

The first win of the day came in the 1500m as reigning SAA Track Athlete of the Week Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio) picked up first place in an extremely competitive 1500m race with a time of 4:40.98. Teammates Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.) and Alison Anderson (Hixson, Tenn.) also placed in the top eight for the Colonels in the 1500m. Rodenfels and Anderson also scored points in the 800m, with Rodenfels finishing fourth in 2:20.25 and Anderson finishing seventh.

In the throwing events, senior Aja Leachman (Louisville, Ky.) finished second overall in the hammer with a throw of 141-02. She also finished fifth in the discus with a throw of 127-10. The javelin was another high-scoring event for Centre as sophomore Olivia Honaker (Brandenburg, Ky.) finished second with a mark of 108-06, and junior Cheyenne Bunner (Mars Hill, N.C.) placed fourth with a throw of 100-07.

Sophomore Molly O'Dea (Louisville, Ky.) began her meet with a seventh place finish in the long jump with a mark of 15-11.50. O'Dea had an excellent triple jump as well, finishing fourth overall with a mark of 35-05.25. Sophomore Nia Dye (Bowling Green, Ky.) finished sixth in the triple jump with a mark of 34-04.75. In the high jump, senior Emily Winkler (Louisville, Ky.) had a third place finish with a clear of 5-03.25. The final event of the meet was the pole vault and the Colonels had three of the four scoring marks, with reigning SAA Field Athlete of the Week Sarah Hayhurst (Newburgh, Ind.) winning the event with a clear of 12-02.00 and sophomore Camille Mangold (Lexington, Ky.) clearing an even ten feet.

Next up for the Centre women's track and field team will be the SAA Championships on Apr. 20-21.
