Centre Volleyball Drops Non-Conference Contest at Franklin

FRANKLIN, Ind. (CentreColonels.com) – With a stretch of seven consecutive home games approaching, the Centre volleyball team took to the road for a rare midweek matchup against the Franklin Grizzlies. Although two of the sets reached the extra stages, the home team prevailed in each of them as the Grizzlies won in straight sets.

The Grizzlies took the opening set by a score of 25-18. The final two sets would be much more competitive, just as the action was between the Colonels and Grizzlies in their matchup last season. The Colonels would fall in the second set by a score of 26-24. The third set was back and forth and extended even longer than the second set, with multiple lead changes. However Centre would not be able to extend the match, losing by a score of 27-25.

Freshman Keeley Morton (Bristol, Tenn.) set a career high in kills with 13 in the contest. Junior Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) added eight kills for Centre.

Senior Shelby Foote (Prospect, Ky.) finished with 30 assists on the night, ending the game with all but one of Centre's assists in the match. Junior Morgan Babey (LaGrange, Ky.) led Centre with 14 digs, while senior Katherine Hagan (Whitesburg, Ky.) recorded nine digs and Shelby Foote finished with eight.

The first match in Centre volleyball's seven-match home stand will take place on Oct. 1 in Alumni Gym as the Colonels will do battle with nationally ranked and 2016 Final Four participant Hendrix. The game is slated for a noon start.
