Centre Volleyball Bested at Hendrix
CONWAY, Ark. (CentreColonels.com) – Fresh off an emotional victory over Transylvania on Thursday, the Centre volleyball team went back on the road for their final trip of the season. First up was a game at the Hendrix Warriors and the Colonels fell to Hendrix in straight sets.
Hendrix used a run of six consecutive points to break open a tight first set. The Warriors gradually built their lead, forcing a set point at 24-17, but the Colonels staved off the set four straight times to cut it to 24-21. The rally was unable to last as Hendrix scored the next point to take a 25-21 victory.
The Colonels fell behind early in the second set. A late 7-0 Hendrix run put the Warriors up by a score of 24-11, but once again Centre would prove to be difficult to put away, fending off the set point six times in a row. Unfortunately, the early deficit proved to be too large as Hendrix won the second set by a score of 25-17.
The third set once again saw the Colonels fall into a hole against the 2015 Final Four participant Warriors. Centre dug a 10-2 hole and could only close within five points the rest of the way as Hendrix took the match with a 25-19 third set victory.
Freshman Peyton Vacala (Savannah, Ga.) led the way for Centre with a game high 11 kills, while freshman Keeley Morton (Bristol, Tenn.) added five kills. Senior Shelby Foote (Prospect, Ky.) finished with a game high 19 assists in the match. Junior Morgan Babey led Centre with ten digs.
Centre will enter the regular season finale at Rhodes with a 12-13 record and a 7-6 mark in Southern Athletic Association contests. The Colonels will take on Rhodes Sunday at 11:00 AM CDT.
