Centre volleyball falls at Sewanee in straight sets

SEWANEE, Tenn. – The Centre volleyball team looked to pick up a sweep of the Sewanee Tigers in the return match of one of Centre's most dramatic victories of the year. In this match the close sets went the way of the Tigers, who took a 3-0 victory over the Colonels.

Centre held a slight lead for the better part of the opening set before Sewanee took control with a 7-1 run. The Colonels trailed 24-19, but rallied for four points in a row to cut the deficit to one, but Centre was unable to tie the score and extend the set to extra points as Sewanee took a hard-fought 25-23 win.

In the second set it was the Tigers who grabbed the early lead and kept it, fending off every Centre rally and keeping the Colonels at bay in a 25-20 win.

Sewanee took advantage in the third set with a 10-1 run to break the set open, eventually pulling away to a 25-17 victory to take the match in straight sets.

Sophomore Keeley Morton (Bristol, Tenn.) paced the Colonels with ten kills on the night. Freshman Kylie Cochran (Buckner, Ky.) delivered 30 assists for a game high, two more than the entire Sewanee team had during the match. Senior Morgan Babey (LaGrange, Ky.) had a game high 12 digs, with senior Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) adding 11 digs.

The Colonels will return home over the Fall Break weekend for the final Southern Athletic Association games in Alumni Gym. The Colonels will host Hendrix on Saturday and Rhodes on Sunday.
