Colonels drop home finale to Brescia
DANVILLE, Ky. – The Centre volleyball team played its final game of the season at Alumni Gym on Thursday as they welcomed the Brescia Bearcats to Danville. The Colonels won the opening set, but dropped the next three as the Bearcats picked up the victory.
After Brescia scored the first four points of the opening set, the Colonels settled down and played well for the rest of the set, using a 6-0 run to take their first lead as sophomore Peyton Vacala (Savannah, Ga.) had five kills and sophomore Keeley Morton (Bristol, Tenn.) put home the final kill on a 25-18 Centre victory.
The second set was very closely contested for the duration, with nine lead changes and 18 ties. With Centre leading 23-22, the Bearcats responded with three straight kills to tie the match at 1-1 with a 25-23 win.
In the third set it was the Bearcats who held a small lead throughout the frame. The Colonels rallied to cut the deficit to 19-17, but Brescia scored six of the final seven points to take the lead in the match with a 25-18 victory.
The fourth set once again saw Brescia take the early lead. The Colonels rallied to tie the score at 23-23 before Brescia forced match point after match point. Centre fought off four match points before the Bearcats' Natalie Jones put home the final kill and giving Brescia a 29-27 win.
Senior Hailey Foote (Prospect, Ky.) led four Colonels in double digit digs with 13. Freshman Kylie Cochran led all players with 44 assists, two off of her season high. Senior Morgan Babey (LaGrange, Ky.) paced Centre with 17 digs, with Foote and Vacala each finishing in double digits.
With the home portion of the schedule over, the Colonels will take to the road for their final four games of the regular season, starting with a trip to SAA regular season champion Berry on Saturday.
