Rodenfels, Colonels win second straight meet
BEREA, Ky. – Saturday marked the second consecutive trip for the Centre cross country teams to Berea College, this time competing in the Berea Invitational. Running a more traditional 5k race this time around, the Centre women picked up their second consecutive team win.
The Colonels were the only team in the 12-team field with all five scoring runners in the individual top ten, besting Tennessee Wesleyan 31 points to 38. Host Berea finished third with 62 points, with Georgetown (Ky.) and Campbellsville finishing off the top five.
Individually, junior and reigning Southern Athletic Association Women's Runner of the Week Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio) picked up where she left off, winning her second straight race with a time of 18:23.4.
Freshman Hallie Searcy (Louisville, Ky.) had another impressive showing, finishing fourth overall in 19:56.9. Sophomore Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.) also excelled in the second meet of the year, finishing in 20:18.2 to place seventh.
Sophomore Margueritte Wheeler (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Alison Anderson (Hixson, Tenn.) rounded out the individual top ten and Centre's scorers for the day with respective times of 20:35.0 and 20:41.2.
The Centre cross country teams will have next week off before competing in the Greater Louisville Classic at the University of Louisville on Sept. 30.
