Women’s cross country wins Fast Cats Classic
OWENSBORO, Ky. – The Centre women's cross country team had another outstanding meet on their steady climb up the regional rankings. The Colonels competed in the Fast Cats Classic and took first place out of a dozen teams in the field.
Centre finished with 32 points to run away with the first place finish, besting second place Division II Christian Brothers by 44 points. Berea, Cumberlands and Lincoln Memorial rounded out the top five teams at the meet.
Individually, the top five scorers for the Colonels all fell in the top ten for the race. Junior Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio) picked up another individual win with a time of 17:48 on the 5k course, over 40 seconds faster than the second place time.
Reigning Southern Athletic Association Women's Runner of the Week Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.) finished fifth overall with a time of 19:13. Freshman Hallie Searcy (Louisville, Ky.) placed seventh overall, finishing six seconds behind Gibson at 19:19.
Senior Marisa Moore (Glasgow, Ky.) and sophomore Margueritte Wheeler (Louisville, Ky.) posted respective times of 19:29 and 19:34. Moore finished ninth in the race, while Wheeler finished right behind in tenth. Freshmen Alison Anderson (Hixson, Tenn.) and Madison Malloy (Lousisville, Ky.) also had impressive performances, each landing in the individual top 25.
The Colonels will return to action on Oct. 13 for a rare Friday meet as they travel to Ohio to compete in the Wilmington Fall Classic.
