Centre women win SAA Cross Country title
HAMPTON, Ga. – The Centre women's cross country team recaptured the Southern Athletic Association Championship on Saturday, winning their first conference title since 2014 and placing five runners on the All-Conference teams.
Centre finished with 34 points to edge Rhodes by 14 points. Defending SAA Champion Berry finished third with 57 points, followed by Birmingham Southern and Oglethorpe. Depth at the top won this meet for the Colonels, as Centre placed four runners in the individual top ten, compared to two for Rhodes.
Individually, the low time of the day for Centre belonged to junior Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio), who placed second overall with a time of 22:00.06. Rodenfels was joined on the All-SAA first team by sophomore Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.), who finished fifth in 23:27.56.
Freshman Hallie Searcy (Louisville, Ky.) finished almost exactly two seconds behind Gibson in sixth place with a time of 23:29.51, while senior Marisa Moore (Glasgow, Ky.) posted a time of 23:50.50, finishing eighth overall to join Searcy on the All-SAA second team.
Freshman Alison Anderson (Hixson, Tenn.) posted a time of 24:12.26 to finish in 13th place and secure a spot on the All-SAA Honorable Mention squad. Sophomore Margueritte Wheeler (Louisville, Ky.) and freshman Madison Malloy (Louisville, Ky.) just missed out on All-Conference honors, posting respective times of 24:51.51 and 25:04.45 as the first two finishers outside of the overall top 15.
Next up for the Colonels will be the South/Southeast Regional Championships at Christopher Newport on Nov. 11.
