Owens, Gibson take home KTCCCA honors

LEXINGTON, Ky. - The Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches Association held its end of season banquet for cross country on Wednesday and Centre was well represented in postseason awards, with head coach Lisa Owens earning Women's College Coach of the Year and sophomore Courtney Gibson (Catlettsburg, Ky.) earning Women's College Runner of the Year for 2017.

Owens guided the Centre women's cross country team to the Southern Athletic Association championship in 2017. It was the team's first conference title since the 2014 season and the fifth conference title Owens has won as Centre's women's cross country coach.

Owens also had two women's runners earn All-Region honors and advance to the NCAA Championships, where junior Annie Rodenfels (Centerville, Ohio) became Centre's third women's cross country All-American and the second in as many years.

Courtney Gibson had a breakthrough sophomore campaign for the Colonels, taking home SAA Women's Runner of the Week honors for the week of Oct. 4 and finishing fifth at the SAA Championships and tenth at the NCAA South/Southeast Regional Championships to earn her first trip to the NCAA Finals.
