Playing in the first day of the SCAC East/West Tournament on Friday, October 15 the Centre volleyball dropped a tough match to Trinity 3-0, as well as to Austin 3-0 in Sherman, Tex. The volleyball team fell to 10-15 on the season and to 2-8 in the SCAC.
The Colonels played extremely well in the first set against Trinity, but the Tigers were able to come away with the 27-25 win. Centre again played very well in the second set, but the Tigers were able to take the set 25-20. During the third set the Colonels were unable to shift the momentum their way and Trinity took the set 25-17.
Junior Stephanie Woeste (Louisville, Ky.) finished the match with six kills, while freshman Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, Tenn.) recorded six kills, two aces, and four blocks. Leading the team in assists was junior Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) with 21. Senior Rebecca Pugh (Colfax, Calif.) had 14 digs in the match and junior Laura Hench (Lexington, Ky.) recorded 12. Senior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) provided the Colonels with five blocks.
Centre then took on Austin College in a very exciting match. The Colonels opened up with a 25-17 loss in the first set, but then in the second set Centre played the Kangaroos very close although Austin came away with the 25-23 win. Centre again played very well in the third set, but Austin would take the match with a 27-25 win.
Woeste and Prevost each had 10 kills in the match and Greer would record 35 assists. Junior Haley Buchanan (Lexington, Ky.) posted one ace on the night. Pugh had 17 digs, while Hench posted five. Hupman posted three blocks in the match and Woeste recorded one.
Next up for the Colonels will be a match against Southwestern in day two of the SCAC East/West Tournament on Saturday, October 16 in Sherman, Tex. The match will start at 1:00 p.m.
