Centre beaten by Rhodes and Birmingham Southern

Centre played Rhodes College in the first match of the day for the Colonels and they opened it up by winning the first two sets 25-15 and 25-22. Rhodes came back to take the third and fourth sets winning 25-23 and 25-22. The Colonels had played well in all four sets, but in the fifth and final set Centre struggled and the Lynx took the set 15-5.

Freshman Catherine Janszen (Cincinnati, Ohio) led the Colonels in kills with 15 and senior Rebecca Pugh (Colfax, Calif.) had 11. Leading Centre in assists was junior Hannah Greer (Owensboro, Ky.) with 38. Freshman Lydia Prevost (Knoxville, Tenn.) had three aces in the match and junior Laura Hench (Lexington, Ky.) recorded 18 digs. Senior Ashton Hupman (Lexington, Ky.) provided the Colonels with seven blocks.

The Colonels then went on to face the host school Birmingham Southern and Centre was unable to get the momentum going their way and the Panthers won in three sets 25-12, 25-13, and 25-15.

Pugh posted six kills and 18 digs in the match, while Greer had seven assists and freshman Kary Stivers (Louisville, Ky.) had five. Hench had one ace and Prevost had one block.

Centre will return to action in the SCAC East/Central tournament on Sunday, October 3 at 11:00 a.m. when they take on DePauw University in Birmingham, Ala.
