Box Score A strong second half performance by the Centre men's soccer team on Sunday, October 3 lifted them over Birmingham Southern in Birmingham, Ala. as the Colonels won the game 3-0. Centre improved to 8-2-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the SCAC with the win.
The defense for both the Colonels and the Panthers played well in the first half as neither team was able to score. Centre had three shots in the first half of action, while the Panthers had four. The Colonels had the 6-1 advantage in corner kicks over Birmingham Southern.
Less than five minutes into the second half junior Austin Hall (Indianapolis, Ind.) gave Centre the 1-0 lead as he scored on an assist from freshman Jack Goblirsch (Elizabethtown, Ky.).
The Colonels made it a 2-0 game just over two minutes later when sophomore Josh Settle (Bowling Green, Ky.) was able to find the back of the net. Hall recorded the assist for the Colonels.
Settle put the game away in the 88th minute when he picked up his second goal of the match and the Colonels third overall on an assist from sophomore Aldyn Royes (Norcross, Ga.).
Centre finished the game with the 11-6 advantage in shots and the 9-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Junior Chris Jackson (Oxford, Ohio) recorded the win for the Colonels in the goal as he had two saves in the match.
The Colonels will return home for their next match on Friday, October 8 when they face conference opponent Hendrix College at 8:00 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
