Centre field hockey upsets DePauw in overtime on Senior Day

The Centre field hockey team upset DePauw University by a score of 1-0 in overtime during the Colonels final regular season game on Sunday, October 31 in Danville, Ky. Centre improved to 11-4 overall and 5-3 in the SCAC with the win, while DePauw University dropped to 12-6 and 5-3.

The Colonels relied on their defense in the first half of play, as DePauw outshoot Centre 7-0 and the Tigers also had the 7-4 advantage on penalty corners.

The tide turned in the second half as the Colonels offense stepped up recording six shots and four penalty corners, while DePauw was held to four shots and four penalty corners.

Centre would carry the momentum into the overtime period and just over two minutes into play sophomore Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) found the back of the cage on an assist from freshman Courtney Kuiper (Louisville, Ky.) to take the 1-0 win.

In the overtime period the Colonels had the 2-0 advantage in shots and penalty corners.

Junior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) picked up the win for Centre in the goal recording six saves in 72:01 minutes of play.

Centre seniors Cynthia Morse (Louisville, Ky.) and Sarah Humphries (Baltimore, Md.) were honored before the start of the game for their contributions over the past four seasons.

The Colonels will next play in the SCAC Championships, which will take place on Friday, November 5 through Sunday, November 7 in Greencastle, Ind. DePauw University will be hosting the event.
