Box Score The Centre football team intercepted four passes and recovered a fumble on their way to beating LaGrange College 48-7 on Saturday, November 13 in Danville, Ky. on Senior Day. Centre finished the season with an overall record of 6-4 and a 3-3 SCAC record. Prior to the start of the game, 21 Centre seniors were recognized.
The Colonels started the game by going three and out, but they would score on their next two possessions as sophomore Jordan Gay (Danville, Ky.) made a field goal to put Centre ahead 3-0. Junior Tyler Osterman (Monroe, Ohio) then completed a pass to junior Jonathan Pinque (Athens, Ala.) after the Colonels intercepted Michael May's pass and Gay converted on the extra point attempt to make it a 10-0 game.
Centre then opened up the second quarter by scoring another touchdown, as Osterman completed a pass to junior John Coomer (Somerset, Ky.). Gay made the point after attempt and Centre took the 17-0 lead.
Senior Kent Simpson (Bardstown, Ky.) intercepted May's pass on LaGrange's next possession and would return the ball 33 yards to the LaGrange 47 yard line. Osterman carried the Colonels down the field and completed his third pass for a touchdown to junior Brian Saulino (Decatur, Ga.). Centre went ahead by a score of 24-0.
Centre's defense continued to play great, as they forced a three and out on LaGrange's next possession.
Pinque would give the Colonels a halftime lead of 31-0 after he scored his second touchdown of the game on a five yard rush. Gay hit his fourth consecutive point after attempt of the game following the Pinque touchdown.
LaGrange opened the second half with the ball and on first and 10 from the Centre 21 senior Jimmie Warren (Georgetown, Ky.) intercepted Drew Carter's pass and he would return the ball 60 yards to the LaGrange 25.
Sophomore Monte Scotton (Cleveland, Tenn.) would rush for seven yards on the next three plays to set up Gay's field goal attempt from 37 yards out. Gay made the field goal attempt and Centre went ahead 34-0.
The Centre defense again held the LaGrange offense to a three and out and junior Jordan Albright (Cincinnati, Ohio) would return the punt 52 yards for a touchdown and the Colonels extended their lead to 41-0.
LaGrange finally got on the board on their next possession, as Drew Carter completed a pass from five yards out to Stevie Harrison and the Centre lead was cut to 41-7.
Centre scored their final points of the game in the fourth quarter, as senior quarterback Drew Sanderson (Mayfield, Ky.) rushed from eight yards out to score a touchdown and then senior Patrick Barsotti (Danville, Ky.) converted on the point after attempt to make it a 48-7 game.
Freshman Alex Hay (Cincinnati, Ohio) recovered a fumble late in the fourth quarter to give the Colonels the ball back and Centre would eventually run out the clock to secure the 48-7 win.
Centre finished the game with 138 rushing yards and 188 passing yards for a total of 326 offensive yards. The Colonels defense held LaGrange to 87 rushing yards and 183 passing yards.
Sanderson led the Centre offense in rushing with 66 yards and a touchdown on 11 attempts and Albright led the lead in receiving yards with 43 yards, as he caught six passes. Osterman completed 14 of 22 passes for 188 yards and three touchdowns
Defensively, the Colonels were led by Warren who had seven tackles, including one sack for nine yards, two tackles for a loss, one pass breakup, and one interception. Hay finished the day with two tackles, two sacks, two tackles for a loss, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.
