Colonels outplayed by DePauw in SCAC Championships

The Centre field hockey team fell 1-0 to DePauw in double overtime on Saturday, November 6 in Greencastle, Ind. Centre finished the season with an overall record of 11-5 and an SCAC record of 5-3.

The Colonels defense had their work cut out for them in the game as DePauw out shot Centre 9-0 in the first half of play, while the Tigers also recorded eight penalty corners. Junior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) had four saves in the first half of play.

During the second half of action Centre's offense stepped up posting three shots, but the Tigers still had the advantage as they had five shots. The Tigers had the narrow 5-4 advantage on penalty corners.

Although DePauw had 14 shots following 70 minutes of play they were unable to find the back of the cage and the game would go into overtime.

Centre's defense again kept the Colonels in the game, as DePauw led in shot opportunities, 4-1. Neither team was able to connect on their shot opportunities and the game would go into double overtime.

In the second overtime period Courtney Wood advanced the Tigers to the conference championship game as she scored the game winning goal in the 86th minute.

Centre finished the game with three of their four shots being on goal, while DePauw had 11 of their 20 shots on goal. DePauw also had the 16-5 advantage on penalty corners.

Junior Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) played well for the Colonels as she recorded 10 saves in the match.
