Box Score The Centre women's soccer team opened up the season with a bang as they beat Asbury College 8-1 on Wednesday, September 1 at home in Danville, Ky.
Centre took a 5-0 lead in the first half as junior Chelsea Stanley (New Albany, Ind.) started the scoring off by finishing off a cross from junior Kelsey Boling (Louisville, Ky.) 2:18 into the first half.
Boling made it a 2-0 game 13:19 into the first half as she finished on a deflection.
In the 18th minute senior Brittany Garr (Louisville, Ky.) capitalized on a one versus one with the goalkeeper after senior Christina Giles (Versailles, Ky.) played the ball overtop the defense to extend the Colonels lead to 3-0.
The Colonels continued to attack late into the first half as junior Chloe Toohey (Louisville, Ky.) recorded a goal in the 39th minute and first year player Morgan Collins (Utica, Mich.) finished the scoring off for the first half as she put one in the back of the net in the 43rd minute.
Centre finished the first half with 13 shots and one corner kick, while Asbury had only one shot and one corner kick.
Garr would open up the scoring in the second half as she found the back of the net off of senior Sarah Hall's (Danville, Ky.) cross to make it a 6-0 game.
Asbury picked up their only goal of the game in the 65th minute as Rebecca Batey scored on a dead ball.
The Colonels didn't let up on their end as junior Meredith Ranney (Owensboro, Ky.) picked up her first goal of the season on an assist from senior Anna Horne (Louisville, Ky.).
Centre finished off the scoring in the 85th minute as junior Aubrey Holle (Ft. Wayne, Ind.) found the back of the net on a header, as sophomore Mary Taylor Kersey (Winchester, Ky.) picked up the assist.
Junior Kelli Lenz (Louisville, Ky.) recorded one save on the night in 74 minutes of play. First year goalkeeper Megan Foley (Louisville, Ky.) also saw 15 minutes of action in the game.
The Colonels out shot Asbury 33-2 in the game and Centre also had the 3-1 advantage on corner kicks.
Centre will return to action on Friday, September 3 as they host the College of Wooster at 8:00 p.m. in Danville, Ky.
