Box Score Following a 1-0 win over Denison on Sunday, September 12 in Danville, Ky. the Centre field hockey team improved to 4-0 on the season and they remain to be scored on in the 2010 season.
The Colonels are off to their best start to a season since the 2007-2008 season with the shutout over Denison.
Centre relied on it's defense during the first half as the Colonels were unable to find the back of the cage on 16 shot attempts. The Colonels held Denison to just two shots in the first half. During the half Centre recorded nine penalty corners, while Denison didn't receive any corners.
Early into the second half freshman Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) was able to give Centre the 1-0 lead as she was able to put the ball past Brittany Benson, the goalkeeper for Denison.
Defense would pull the Colonels through during the second half as Denison couldn't respond and Centre went on to win 1-0.
Centre had 29 shots in the game compared to Denison's four and the Colonels also had an 18-1 advantage on penalty corners.
Junior goalkeeper Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) recorded the win for the Colonels.
Next for the Colonels is Hendrix in the first conference match up of the season for Centre. The match will take place in Danville, Ky. at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17.
