DePauw blanks Colonels 2-0 in field hockey action

For the first time in 2010, the Centre College field hockey team was held scoreless as the Colonels fell 2-0 to DePauw University in a Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) match Sunday, Sept. 26 in Greencastle, Ind.

The loss drops Centre to 6-2 overall and 2-2 in the SCAC, while DePauw improves to 8-1 overall and 2-0 in league play.

The Tigers' Bridgette Shamleffer scored the first goal of the match at the 22:06 mark to give DePauw a 1-0 lead.

Less than three minutes before halftime, the Margaret Ellis hit the back of the cage for an unassisted goal and a 2-0 lead that would last till the end.

The Tigers out-shot Centre 13-4 on the day and held an 8-7 edge in penalty corners. Junior goalkeeper Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) suffered the loss for the Colonels. Cowley stopped two of the four shots she faced.

Centre will next host Transylvania University Saturday, Oct. 2 at 1 p.m. at Farris Stadium in Danville, Ky.
