Box Score The Centre field hockey put forth a dominant performance on the road, keeping Trine University from attempting a single shot during a 5-0 victory in Angola, Ind. on Friday.
Junior Sarah Jessee (Louisville, Ky.) scored a pair of goals, giving her a team-high seven on the season, and Barbara Parks (Chapel Hill, N.C.) had a goal and an assist as the Colonels held lopsided advantages in every statistical category in cruising to the victory.
In addition to keeping Trine from attempting a shot, Centre took 42 of its own, putting 28 of those on cage. The Colonels held a 25-1 advantage in penalty corners, and Trine goalkeeper Tristen Huntley made 22 saves. Centre senior goalkeeper Patty Cowley (Louisville, Ky.) didn't have to make a save in posting her third shutout victory of the season.
The scoring started for Centre seven minutes into the game when Sydney White (Louisville, Ky.) scored on a deflection in front of the goal after a penalty corner. Four minutes later, Katy Meyer (Louisville, Ky.) made the score 2-0, scoring an unassisted goal on a shot from the top of the circle. Parks put the Colonels up 3-0 going into the half when she scored off an assist from Alexis Hebert (Chapel Hill, N.C.).
Jessee scored both of her goals in the second half, the first coming on a Chelsea Klein (Louisville, Ky.) assist, and the second when she deflected a Parks shot from the top of the circle with 15 minutes left in play.
With the win, Centre improves to 9-4 overall on the season. The Colonels return to action Thursday, Oct. 20 at Bellarmine.
